BEING A RESOLUTION COMMENDING SALEM'S ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TEAM FOR WINNING THE OHIO STATE OM CHAMPIONSHIP AND PLACING TWELFTH OUT OF FIFTY-TWO TEAMS IN THE WORLD OM FINALS.

WHEREAS, Zach Kennedy, John Lantz, Andrew Loudon, Susan Mainwaring, Laci Meals, and Whitney Thayer, fifth graders at Southeast Elementary School, were the first Odyssey of the Mind team from Salem to win the Ohio State Competition, and the first to go to the World Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 26-29, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Odyssey of the Mind is the largest worldwide creative problem solving competition for children; and

WHEREAS, Salem's OM team, coached by Barbara Loudon, and assisted by Kirk Kennedy, placed twelfth out of fifty-two teams in Division I at the World Finals;

WHEREAS, we, the members of the Salem City Council wish to express our appreciation and commend Salem's Odyssey of the Mind Team and coaches for their outstanding performance;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SALEM, STATE OF OHIO:

SECTION 1:

That this Council does for its members and for the citizens of Salem pay tribute to Zach Kennedy, John Lantz, Andrew Loudon, Susan Mainwaring, Laci Meals, and Whitney Thayer, and their coaches Barbara Loudon and Kirk Kennedy, for their outstanding achievement in the State and World Odyssey of the Mind competiton.

SECTION 2:

That this Resolution be filed in the Book of Ordinances and Resolutions of the City of Salem, and that the Clerk of this Council be directed to deliver a copy of this Resolution to each member and coach of the team.
