BEING A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR A PROPER PUBLIC PURPOSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE POSTAGE AND DIRECT MAILING OF CENSUS MATERIALS.

The Council of the City of Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio, met in regular session on the 8th day of March, 2000, at the City Hall, Salem, Ohio.

WHEREAS, the Federal Census shall be taking place on April 1, 2000; and

WHEREAS, population determinations made by the census have a direct impact with regard to financial grants and assistance from the state and federal government to local municipalities; and

WHEREAS, The City of Salem has experienced growth since the previous federal census in 1990; and

WHEREAS, an accurate census and population determination for the City of Salem could have a direct positive financial impact on the City of Salem.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Salem, Ohio that:

(1) It is in the best interest of the City of Salem to disseminate census materials for an accurate population representation.

(2) The Salem City Auditor is authorized to spend funds necessary for the proper public purpose associated with postage costs and direct mailing fees of census materials.
